Recap from IDC’s Top 10 Predictions for 2008

Last week we ran a successful event in Auckland in conjunction with the leading international research company IDC.

The event, entitled ‘An Update on IDC’s Top 10 Predictions for 2008’ was presented by Ullrich Loeffler, IDC’s Program Manager Software ANZ.

Predictably, the presentation was wide-ranging in the information it covered, looking at the predictions IDC made earlier in the year and providing us all with an update as to how those predictions are tracking, nine months into 2008. We received some great comments about how people liked the content and its breadth, giving them insights into areas they were both familiar and unfamiliar with.

Key takeaways included the role IT can play in a tight economy, particularly the operational efficiencies that can be gained through business automation, virtualisation and green IT, and Software as a Service. At Intergen, all of these are key themes for our customers, and we’re also investing significantly in understanding and delivering solutions in these areas – our award winning ActionThis is such an example.

What was particularly appreciated by attendees was that these findings were supported by data and facts, gathered by IDC during the course of its research. In this industry, claims are often made without reference to evidence, and it was refreshing to see such important claims backed up by recent, detailed data.

For those who are interested, we’ve just posted the slides to our website.

Thanks to IDC for their involvement, and we’d also like to thank Microsoft New Zealand for their support before, during and after the event.

On a related note, Intergen is looking to run both business-oriented and technical events in 2009. If there are topics you, your colleagues or your organisation would find of interest, please let us know.
