Intergen Young Achiever Awards launched at Wellington Institute of Technology

26 May 2016

Wellington, New Zealand – May 26, 2016 – Intergen is now the official sponsor of the Intergen Young Achiever Awards for Bachelor of Information Technology students at Wellington Institute of Technology (WelTec), with the inaugural award ceremony taking place at WelTec this week.

Intergen CEO, Simon Bright, and WelTec Chief Executive, Chris Gosling, officiated the ceremony, with awards presented to John Frederikson (first prize), Jonah Jackson (second prize) and Roxanne Shirtcliffe (third prize).

Simon Bright Intergen’s Chief Executive Officer says employing graduates and supporting young students while they are studying IT makes great business sense.

“At Intergen we want to provide an avenue for great students to become great employees and that is why we have partnered with WelTec to provide the Intergen Young Achiever Awards,” he says.

“New graduates re-energise our workforce and enhance our profile bringing fresh ideas and new approaches to our business. Our graduate programme provides an opportunity for students to get to know our business and see if it is the right fit for them. We want to take on 20 to 25 graduates in January 2017 and our requirements are growing all the time. The graduates that WelTec produces with advanced applied ICT skills is exactly what we are looking for at Intergen.”

WelTec’s Chief Executive Chris Gosling says, “WelTec’s ICT graduates are highly sought after by industry and we are very pleased to have partnerships in place with companies like Intergen. Their support for our students is invaluable, giving them exposure to IT companies while they are studying with us. ICT is a key driver of Wellington’s economy and through initiatives like this with Intergen together we will ensure our city has the skilled workforce needed to enable it to grow.”

Intergen has a strong graduate recruitment programme, having employed more than 100 graduates across New Zealand since the programme began, with 22 new graduates starting with Intergen in the 2016 graduate intake.

The Intergen Young Achiever awards began in 2014 at Victoria University, recognising top students in Victoria University’s INFO 101: Foundations of Information Systems.

Simon Bright says, “We’re extremely proud to see the awards now established at two leading tertiary institutions and look forward to now encouraging even more IT students to consider careers in IT.”
