SKYCITY Variety of Chefs Part 1

Variety – The Children’s Charity is a cause very close to my heart. Two years ago I did not even know that Variety existed. I first came to know about the charity when Intergen entered into an RFP process with them for a businesswide systems replacement.

During this process, I got to know Variety intimately, I learnt why they do what they do, how they are bettering the lives of kiwi kids and how selfless they are in their pursuit to make the world a better place.

This was my second year attending the Variety of Chefs event and just as with the previous year the event was incredible, it was well organised and I ended with three things – a full belly, a lighter wallet and a heart filled with a whirlwind of emotions.

The part that sticks with you after you attend an event like this is neither the full stomach nor the lighter wallet - those experiences are fleeting - but instead your mind is racing with thoughts of how privileged we are and that we can always eat another meal. or work to make some more money but what we cannot get back is the chance to make a difference in the lives of those who need it most.

I am without doubt that every attendee left that evening feeling extremely grateful for what they have in their lives, and at the same time, inspired to do what they can to make a difference in these kiwi kids’ lives. Most of the people in the room grew up with a semi standard childhood, having access to life’s necessities so it definitely pains the heart to think of children who are going without basic human needs like food, warm clothing or the ability to learn and play sport.

I, along with countless others at Intergen, sponsor a child through the Variety Kiwi Kids Sponsorship program and I don’t know how or why I didn’t do it sooner. To see the difference the money we give makes in improving the quality of the lives of children we sponsor makes it worth it, 1000 times over, and makes us want to do everything we can to help.

What makes it all that much sweeter is knowing that the solution that we implemented alongside Variety furthers that cause and enables Variety to grow their sponsorships and help more kiwi kids than ever before. All without having to increase their base staff numbers. This means that every dollar donated goes where it is needed most and in the most efficient way possible.

All in all, an extremely worthy cause and a great evening to spend with our clients. It leaves me inspired to do more, help more and bring others along the journey to make the lives of our kids better. After all, the children of today are the leaders of tomorrow so it’s the best investment we can make.

If you want to start making a difference today, sign up to be a kiwi kid sponsor. https://heartlink.variety.org.nz/findchild/.
