GovHack 2015 winner: International Best Disaster Mitigation Hack

The Intergen Data Insights team and a couple of other members were placed first in the International Best Disaster Mitigation Hack at the GovHack International 2015 awards in Sydney.

The award recognised the team’s effort to support disaster mitigation and community collaboration during an emergency.

Team Tremorz built the mobile emergency app iHelp, which is designed to help people notify friends and family, receive social media alerts and collaborate with their community to share their needs and supplies during a civil emergency.

The app was built in just 46 hours at the GovHack NZ 2015 weekend using open government data and was also placed third in the Best Open Government Data Hack category in NZ (see my previous blog post GovHack: what can be done in 46 hours).
