Looking to the future, better together - Empired + Intergen become Capgemini

Taking the next step in our evolution
This Friday, 1 July, Empired + Intergen become Capgemini.
Our local team of 1,100 across Australia, New Zealand and Seattle becomes part of a team of 3,500 in Australia and New Zealand, backed by a team of more than 300,000 people globally. As Capgemini, we’re excited to continue to bring our clients the same steadfastly local services and engagement, now with an even greater depth and breadth of end-to-end services. We’re greatly looking forward to drawing on Capgemini’s global capability, expertise, deep sector knowledge and IP, along with the many opportunities for innovation and acceleration that being part of Capgemini brings.
We’re also excited about the opportunity to continue to build on our longstanding commitment to Microsoft and our position as a Microsoft digital, data and cloud leader in Australia and New Zealand. This will allow us to further accelerate and bring even greater value to our clients’ most important outcomes, with greater pace and scale.
As Empired + Intergen, we have always taken great pride in the role we have played over the past two decades in helping some of the world's largest and most respected public and private sector organisations realise true competitive advantage today through the strategic application of technology.
Since our very earliest days – in an unassuming blue building in Perth and in two separate dwellings directly across the street from one another on The Terrace in Wellington – we have always aspired to make a positive difference for our clients through technology, helping them to achieve tomorrow’s advantage, today and to get set for their best future.
Never has this purpose been more important than it is right now, and from Friday we take our next step forward into our own future as Capgemini, with a promise to help clients, our people and partners to get the future they want. For us, this feels like a very fitting and important progression.
Looking back, looking forward
As we start to reflect on the end of our time as Empired + Intergen, our leadership team and wider organisation have started to share some of the milestones and moments that have been the most defining for each of us personally over the years, along with the things we’re most looking forward to – for our clients and for ourselves – as we become part of Capgemini.
For me the proudest milestone for me in my time with Empired + Intergen (which started back in 2008), has been Empired’s acquisition of Intergen in November 2014. Intergen’s Board at the time (Tony Stewart, Wayne Forgesson, Paddy Payne, Chris Auld, Murray Newman, Richard Westlake and myself) saw an opportunity to realise much more for Intergen’s people and our clients.
Becoming Empired + Intergen created new opportunities for our people, and helped us move faster as one. It gave us all access to a greater depth of capability, combining Empired’s strong heritage around infrastructure managed services and Intergen’s strong heritage around project-based apps enablement. Bringing both those strengths together meant we could become a true, end-to-end single service provider for organisations.
And now the wheel has come full circle and we’re taking the next step in our evolution – becoming Capgemini – which, once again, will bring even greater opportunities for our people to grow and our clients to innovate.
For me, the one thing I’m most excited about for the journey ahead – and there are a great many things to choose from – is the opportunities that are created for our people. It is already clear that a global employer will create new opportunities for each of us to grow skills and experience faster.
Looking back on Empired + Intergen’s journey to date, I’m also very proud that we have been very deliberate and purposeful at every step of the way in determining our future.
In saying that, however, it’s our response to some of the things that we couldn’t have foreseen – the things that we didn’t plan for – that have had the greatest impact on our business and have made us who we are today.
From the first Christchurch earthquake where we found ourselves responding to an instantly changed world for our people (incidentally using the same emergency response system we’d provisioned for the government), to the Christchurch mosque attacks in March 2019, when we tragically lost a cherished colleague and friend, Syed Ali – these are perhaps some of the times that have defined us most of all.
Though hard to look back on, it’s our response to these things – our deep sense of connection, our people’s unconditional support for each other and our cultural heritage through these times – that I reflect on with the greatest pride of all.
It is exciting times ahead, and on behalf of our Managing Director Russell Baskerville and the Empired + Intergen leadership team, we extend our heartfelt thanks to the valued clients and partners – and of course to our people – who have been part of our incredible journey.
I feel proud to have been part of ‘team yellow’ – I hope you all do.
We can’t wait to share the next chapter with you all and to continue to help our clients, partners and people to get the future they want in exciting new ways.
Sharing his own reflections, Russell Baskerville says:
“Our mission has always been to make a positive impact and create exceptional experiences with technology that change the way our clients run their businesses and enable their best future. From today as Capgemini, we further build upon this mission, benefiting from the resources and global capabilities Capgemini offers.
I'm so proud of the business that Empired + Intergen has become and I'm really excited to become Capgemini, as we embrace the tremendous opportunities that lie ahead for our clients and our people.
It has been an amazing journey so far and I would like to extend my deepest thanks to our people, our clients and our shareholders for their invaluable support along the way.”
